Newborn Photography Sessions

If you are looking for one of the best Newborn Photographers in Langley or Surrey, you are in the right place. The best time to schedule a newborn session is between 5 and 21 days after birth. At this stage, babies are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep longer. What if your baby is already born and older than 3 weeks? Don’t worry, I am happy to photograph bigger babies.  There are certain poses and props that will work very well with bigger babies, send me an email if you would like more details.

It is best to book your newborn photo session a couple of months before your due date. Please feel free to contact me and book your newborn session.

Information for Newborn Session

A note to mom

Mom may not feel like yourself right after giving birth, but I strongly encourage you to have a portrait taken with your new baby while they are so tiny and fresh. I will shoot you in flattering angels and will do suitable cropping and adjustment in the post processing stage, don’t worry! There is nothing more joyful than those photos of you and your baby.

When should I book my newborn session?

All newborn sessions are booked Monday to Friday. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to inform me of your due date. We will make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your new baby you can contact us to arrange a suitable date and time for your session.

The best time to photograph a newborn baby is when they are under three weeks of age. Ideally aged 5-21 days at the time of the photo session. At this stage, babies are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep longer. After two weeks, babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up.

Where your session is held …

Your session will take place in my home studio in Langley, BC.

How long does the session take …

Newborn sessions are usually between 2-3 hours. Packages that include sibling and family shots are slightly longer than the baby only package. For a detailed overview of the length of the session, read my blog post : “How long does a newborn photography session take?“.

We live in Vancouver and were originally looking for Vancouver newborn photographer, would it be an issue for us to get our sessions done in Langley?

Not at all, I have photographed many newborn and families from Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Cotquitlam, Maple Ridge and Abbotsford area. Just like any Vancouver newborn photographer or Burnaby newborn photographer, they will also get parents visiting from Abbotsford and Chilliwack area. It is convenient to visit a local photographer to get newborn shots done. However, there are times when some of the Vancouver newborn photographers you like are not available due to schedules or personal reasons, feel free to contact me if you like my work. It is usually a 25-minute drive from Burnaby and 35 minute drive from Vancouver if you take Highway 1. Be sure to check out my “Newborn baby photography preparation checklist” for parents traveling short / long distance.

What to wear to your newborn session

Dress your baby in loose fit pyjama (zip up or button down).

Parents, keep your clothing simple! Feel free to get your hair, nails and makeup done. We suggest short or long sleeves to flatter. Light colored, solid tops.

Siblings should be in solid, neutral colors (white, grey, cream, without patterns or logos) to keep focus on the baby. They will be barefoot.

When to feed your baby …

We love “milk drunk” babies! Interact with your baby and try to keep him/her awake at least 1 hour before the session to ensure he/she is good and sleepy for the session. Try to feed your baby 30 to 40 minutes before the session. If your baby is bottle feeding, please bring extra bottles and milk (formula or breastmilk).

About Props …

I have a collection of blankets, wraps, baskets, knits hats and headbands available for parents to use. You are also welcome to use any of your own props. Please let me know if there are specific colors you would like to use in the images. If you have toys, hats, props or family heirlooms you would like to use in the session, let me know so I can advise on what will work best.

Should I bring pacifiers ?

If you can bring a pacifier for your baby, this will make the work much easier. Newborns often love to suck and it helps soothe them into the poses we are looking for and makes for easier transitions and getting them to sleep.

Accidents happen!

Don’t worry, it’s a normal part of the newborn photography sessions and it happens all the time. I have all the supplies readily available to clean up any messes. It is a good idea to bring some extra diapers and change clothing.

Will my baby be handled safely?

Your newborn baby’s safety is my number one priority. Please read “In-studio Newborn Photography Safety” for more information.
