Information for Newborn Session

A note to mom

Mom may not feel like yourself right after giving birth, but I strongly encourage you to have a portrait taken with your new baby while they are so tiny and fresh. I will shoot you in flattering angels and will do suitable cropping and adjustment in the post processing stage, don’t worry! There is nothing more joyful than those photos of you and your baby.

When should I book my newborn session?

All newborn sessions are booked Monday to Friday. You can contact me at any time during your pregnancy to inform me of your due date. We will make a tentative booking and when you arrive home from hospital with your new baby you can contact us to arrange a suitable date and time for your session.

The best time to photograph a newborn baby is when they are under two weeks of age. Ideally aged 5-14 days at the time of the photo session. At this stage, babies are more likely to curl up in “womb-like” poses, stay asleep longer. After two weeks, babies are a little harder to settle and things like colic and baby acne can start to flare up.

Where your session is held …

Your session will take place in my home studio in Langley, BC.

What to wear …

Dress your baby in loose fit pyjama (zip up or button down).

Parents, keep your clothing simple! Feel free to get your hair, nails and makeup done. We suggest short or long sleeves to flatter. Light colored, solid tops.

Siblings should be in solid, neutral colors (white, grey, cream, without patterns or logos) to keep focus on the baby. They will be barefoot.

When to feed your baby …

We love “milk drunk” babies! Interact with baby and try to keep him/her awake at least 1 -2 hours before the session to ensure he/she is good and sleepy for the session. Try to hold off feeding your baby until you arrive at the studio. If baby is bottle feeding, please bring extra bottles and milk (formula or breastmilk).

About Props …

I have a collection of blankets, wraps, baskets, knits hats and headbands available for parents to use. You are also welcome to use any of your own props. Please let me know if there are specific colors you would like to use in the images. If you have toys, hats, props or family heirlooms you would like to use in the session, let me know so I can advise on what will work best.

Should I bring pacifiers ?

If you can bring a pacifier for your baby, this will make the work much easier. Baby’s often love to suck and it helps soothe them into the poses we are looking for and makes for easier transitions and getting them to sleep. If your baby won’t take a pacifier or you do no feel comfortable offering one, don’t worry. I can work with whatever is right for you and your family.

Accidents happen!

Don’t worry, it’s a normal part of the newborn photography sessions and it happens all the time. I have all the supplies readily available to clean up any messes. It is a good idea to bring some extra diapers and change clothing.

Information for Maternity Session

When is the best time for beautiful pregnant belly photos?

The ideal time to photograph your bump is between 32 to 36 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage you have a beautiful round bump but it is not yet too uncomfortable to move around and get in some nice poses.

Is make up included?

Sorry, make-up and hair stylists are not available. I highly recommend have your makeup and hair done before the session.

What should I bring with me?

I have a selection of maternity gowns, fabrics and accessories but you are always welcome to bring your favourite dresses and outfits along. I will send you a preparation guide once you have booked your session.

Do you provide outdoor maternity photo session?

My current focus is on indoor sessions using studio lighting.  Indoor sessions ensure the highest picture quality and consistent image style for final post production, creativity and delivery of the final product. As well, there will never be a risk of having to miss capturing a special moment due to inclement weather. If an outdoor session is important to your vision, I do provide a package that offers this as an add-on to an indoor session.
